THE WARATAHA WIN CARDIFF EXTENDS TOURISTS. A PLAYER ORDERED OFF. London, Dec. 3. The Waratahs deteated Cardiff by 15 to 9. The referee sent off Jack Ford in the second halt. Twenty thousand people witnessed the match at Cardiff. The weather wa s ideal. Cardiff were early ahead, Male kicking a penalty goal in tne first few minutes. J. Ford scored a try, which Lawton converted, and the latter afterwards increased the lead with a dropped goal. Alter the interval Cardiff obtained another penalty goal and an unconverted try. It'-was at this time that a sensation was caused by J. Ford being sent off the field, apparently for disputing the referee’s ruling. The Cardiffites appealed for Ford to be allowed to remain, but the referee (Mr. Huntlev) was adamant and the player left the field. With only 14 men the Waratahs won a thrilling game, when Towers and Tarleton scored unconverted tries, after most spectacular handling by forwards and backs. It was a great finish to a magnificent game. The Waratahs had to fight and it was clever combination that iurned the game in their favour. The referee’s decision followed n melee near the Cardiff posts. A moment before one of the Waratahs had gone over the line with several Cardiffites. but was recalled and a scrum was ordered. Then Ford was ordered off. Newspapers recall the similar sensational dismissal of Brownlie ths famous Alt Black.—(A. an<l N.Z.) TENNIS CHRISTIE CUP. WANGANUI RETAINS TROPHY. Wellington, Dec 3.
