ALLEGED MISAPPROPRIATION OF FUNDS
JURY UNABLE TO AGREE ON 18 CHARGES. RE-TRIAL, ORDERED. New Plymouth, Nov. 30. The jury was unable to agree on 15 out of 23 charges of misappropriation of funds belonging to the Taranaki Hospital Board preferred against T. H. H. Sinclair a well-known resident of Opunake, who look a prominent part in public affairs and was a member of the Hospital Board and secretary of th© Opunake Cottage Hospital Committee. A re-trial was ordered by Mr. Justice Ostler for next session. The amount involved in the 23 charges wa s £l6B 2/6 but four of the charges were withdrawn and on four a verdict of not guilty was returned. The accused paid all the money back and the defence was forgetfulness and muddlement. The moneys involved were sums paid to the accused as secretary of the Cottage Hospital Committee in settlement of ex-patients’ accounts The accused was released on bail.
