MAHORA.

)L COMMITTEE MEETING.

The School Committee meeting was held on Monday evening. Present: Messrs C Larsen (chairman!. Wise, McCormick. Kessell, Wilson. Wilkie, Vesty. late, and .the headmaster (Mr. W. T. Chaplin) It was decided that the new boundaries of school districts be confirmed with the reservation that those children who are at present attending the Mahora School and who will be affected by the alteration of districts, be allowed ,to comnlete their education at the school should they so desire, but that no new emoluments be made.

Mie committee received with regret the resignation of Miss Gray, infant mistress, who has been connected with the progress of the school for about twenty veers (except for ene short period). An application was received from Hastings West School for use of the baths for an hour on one day per week for 40 pupils and it was decided to grant the request free of charge. The committee much appreciate the help which has been given them in erecting seating accommodation around the baths especially the assistance of Air Hewitt, whose experience in this class of work proved invaluable.

The headmaster's report showed a roll number of 660, the average attendant being 580. This exceptionally low average is due to prevalence of measles especially in the lower classes, one class especially having an attendance of onlv 10 with a roll number of 46. This vear hag undoubtedly been a record one for sickness amongst teachers and pupils, the result being that work has been carried on nnder difficulties The proficiency examination is baintr held on Fridnv December ? and the school will break un Tor 'Xmas holidays on Tuesday. December 20, reopening on Wednesdn- Febrnarv 1. Accounts amounting tn £l6 Ifll. and haths accounts £54 17/3 were passed for payment.
