COMMONWEALTH STEAMERS

SALE BY TENDER ONLY. (Received 29, 11 .5 a.m.) Canberra, Nov. 29. In the Federal House of Representatives, in reply to a question, Mr. Bruce stated that a cabled message had been received from Lord Inchcape that the latter would be prepared to dispose of the Commonwealth line of steamers for the Government if desired. Mr. Bruce also stated that Lord Kylsant had also inquired whether, in the event of an offering being made for the Line, would the Commonwealth Government be prepared to indemnify the purchaser against industrial trouble in Australia. Mr. Bruce added that the reply in each case was that the Line would be offered by public tender and that the Government . could not consider any other offer.
