♦ BRIAND AS GARDENER. London, Nov. 18. “The olive tree planted at Locarno does not yet throw a shade large enough for us to sit in its shadow, but already one can rest at its foot and take hope,” said M. Briand, French Foreign Minister, in a speech at Nantes. “If we tend and protect it from sharp frosts we may live to see it thrive and grow. 1 am happy to be its gardener. “Why should two peoples kill each other and shed seas of blood when difficulties arise. “France invites al] nations to organise for the juridical solution in the event of conflict,” he added.
