LONG TRANCE

ASLEEP FOR 12 MONTHS. WONDERFUL EXPERIENCE. London, Oct. 22. From th e little village'of Bozeat, on the borders of Northamptonshire* and Bedfordshire, comes the strange story of a woman woo. after being in a trance of twelve months ro covered by her own strength of will. She- attributes her recovery to ‘ ‘ au-to-suggestion, ” while a friend who was with her during her illness says that it was the patient's iron nerva that saved her. for- twenty years Mrs Longland, wife of a-farmer, has been a oedridden invalid, and for the last four years she has had to b 0 artificially fed. During this, period she lost her powers of speech and movement and lay in a trance for a year. Some months ago the doctors informed the members of her 1 family that she was dying. Suddenly the invalid tried to struggle up in bed. Her husband put his ears to her lips and heard his wife’s voice, for so many months silent, asking faintly for water. Throughout the night the family watched and in the early morning they were startled to seo her sitting up. She complained of hunger, and ate a hearty meal. Concerning her recovery Mrs Longland said, “As I lay in bed I suddenly thought I could walk. I got out, and sure enough I was able to pull myself up by the bedpost and walk round the bed. “When th e doctor came I had to do it again—and did it even better. I feel stronger and bettor now than I can ever remember feeling before.”
