CHARGES OF “RECEIVING”
TAYLOR SENTENCED. THE MISSING MAIL BAG. (Per Press Association). Hamilton, Nov. 25. In the Supreme Court to-day Mr. Justice Herdman sentenced Harol I William Taylor to two years' hard labour, sentences to be concurrent, on each of two charges of receiving cheques known to have been m postal packets contained in a mail bag missed from Frankton on Sentembei 2 and not subsequently traced. His Honour referred to the serious nature of the offence, stating the public placed implicit confidence in the mail service 'and the trust should not be misplaced. Taylor must have known something of some of the circumstances connected with the loss of the mail bag. The Judge said that he had taken into consideration the fact that the accused was charged with receiving only and not actual theft. Although Taylor had had three previous convictions he had not served a tei-m of imprisonment.
