Sydney Building Statistics; For the year ended June 30th, 10,235 new buildings were erected in Sydney and the suburbs at a cost of £12,621,000. One feature is a report tabled showing that the average cost of a house in 1914 was £698, while a similar house would now cost £1222.

A GREAT PERFORMANCE

Hastings to Utiku (Main Trunk), via Palmerston North and back on top gear using only lo gallons of petrol, about 1 pint of lubricating oil, no punctures or mechanical stops of any kind—such was the experience of Mr. W. Bennett, Avenue Road, Hastings, on a recent trip driving his 5-seater Studebaker Director Duplex model. The total distansa -overed was 415 miles, so the petrol consumption worked out at 27 2-3 i.iles per gallon.
