BIG ASSEMBLAGE AT TRAFALGAR SQUARE.
(Received 21, 1.35 a.m.) London, Nov. 20. The miners’ march ended in a downpour in Trafalgar Square, whither they tramped after lunch at Hyde Park, with lighted safety lamps and dripping banners. They were headeij by 160 London ex-service men and followed by pipers, fifes and drums. Thousand’s of spectators cheered them en route. Ten thousand assembled at Trafalgar Square where “The Red Flag” and “The International” were sung. Mr. Maxton and Mr. Cook spoke, the latter declaring that the tramp would re-echo in /Berlin, Russia and New York, drawing attention to the poverty of the miners and the callousness of “Baldwinism.” He then called: ‘Now, shout after me, ‘Baldwin, you must go.’ ” The crowd vociferously responded and carried a resolution calling on the Government to receive a deputation and hear suggestions for ameliorating the situation. Sixty thousand of the unemployed miners' marchers spent the night in Bethnal Green Town Hall.—(A. and N.Z.)
