DR. TILLYARD
APPOINTED COMMONWEALTH ENTOMOLOGIST, LOSS TO DOMINION. Wellington, Nov. 18.
Advice has been received that Dr. R. J, TUlyard, of Cawthron Institute, Nelson, has been ottered and has accepted the position of Commonwealth Entomologist. He is at present in Australia, and is due back shortly in New Zealand Dr. Tihyard, wh< has had a distin guished scientific career, has become very well known in connection with hi' researches into the control of noxious weeds by means of insects. Under his direction very up-to-date insectaries at Cawthron Institute have latterly been erected, and nfuch is hoped for the complete experiments m the control of the blackberry and other noxious weeds. The departure of the doctor, who will leave the Dominion earlv next year, although a great loss, will not put an end to this important work. The Council of Scientific and Industrial Research is taking steps to see that it is carried on.
