Two Studebaker Commander Roadsters and one Commander Sedan established new official stock model world records tor speed and endurance between October 18 and November 4 at Atlantic (<ty speedway ’oadsters completed Jo.ooo miles in .ess than 23,000 minutes, establishing average of 65.35 miles per hour. Sedan completed 25.000 miles in less than 25.000 minutes, establishing average 61.98 miles per hour, all stops included. Records supervised and checked by Contest Board of American Automobile Association.
As part of its safety-first campaign the Royal Automobile Club of Australia is having a special film prepared. illustrating the dangers of the roads. When ready the film will be exhibited at the principal city, suburban and country picture theatres. Lantern slides have also been designed for the same purpose, and will also be shown on the screens in a few days. Aanother branch of publicity for the campaign will be pictorial posters. Parents and citizens’ associations. Bov Scouts. Girl Guides. Railway and Tramway Institutes, and. other organisations are being asked to co-operate in the campaign.
A member of the Stratford Automobile Association at a recent meeting expressed the opinion that motorists should not complain too much about the proposed petrol tax. as since the impositions had been put on motor vehicles the roads had very much improved. Eight or nine years ago a set of tyres would; last him a year, but now. with the improved roads, he could get two years’ use from them, and that was a big consideration
