COST OF LIVING

FIGURES FOR BRITAIN. COMPARISON WITH JULY, 1914. (British Official Wireless). (Received 18. 12.30 p.m.) Rugby, Nov. 17. Owing to seasonal increases in the price of fuel and some foodstuffs, the cost of living in October was 69 per cent, above that of July, 1914, as compared with 67 per cent, in previous month. Tho effect of cold weather on the building and other trades, also accounted for a seasonal increase in unemployment. Among approximately twelve million work-people insured against unemployment, the percentage wholly or partly unemployed was 9.5 on October 24th, compared with 9.3 the month previously, and 13.6 the year previously, when the effects of the mining dispute were still Pelt.
