We congratulate our contemporary, the Auckland “Sun,” on its darmg enterprise in bringing its daily issue to Napier at 4 a.m., containing all its news which has been published in Auckland the previous afternoon at 2.30. The falling off was no doubt due to the fact that a higher standard of qualification for appointment was being now insisted upon.

A final reminder is given of the concert to be held to-night in St. Andrews’ Hall, Market street, Hastings. The heavy south-west gale which swept over Otago the day before died away, and it was followed by a frost. Tomatoes in thousands have been ruined and also the stone fruits. The orchardists in the Alexandra district had with good reason been looking forward to a very remunerative season, but in a little over an hour their hopes for prolific crops wore shattered.
