GRAND PRIX OPPERMAN IN”THE LEAD. Melbourne, Nov, 16. The second stage of the cycling grand prix, Wangaratta to Bendigo, 150 miles, resulted:—H. Opperman (8 hours 45 minutes 8 seconds) 1, H. Moodj’ (8-50-32) 2, P. Osborn (8-57-86 1-5) 4. Opperman lost eight minutes through a fall and a puncture. He took the lead at 110 miles Th e New Zealanders Watson and Rennie won the first stage of the teams race, time, 21 25.5. Opperman Moody and Osborne led for 36 miles, Watson being fourth. Machine trouble halted Watson. Rennie was thirteenth and Watson eighteenth at 68 miles, where Moody led. Opperman and Moody held the lead at 95 miles, with Osborne next, then Watson. Opperman streaked away in the last ten miles and won well from Moody. A great race for third plane ended in Osborne’s favour. Rennio was sixth and Watson seventh. A great reception was accorded Oppperman, who was complimented by Cr. Nicholson, of Bendigo. Fo r the first two stages Opperman is first leading Watson, who is second by 44 minutes 53 1-5 seconds. /
