COUNTY COUNCIL MEETING GENERAL BUSINESS The monthly meeting of the above was held on Monday. Present; C r s. A. Robottom (chair). L. Glenny. N. Paulsen, J. Butler, J. A. Kerr and C. Thomsen. Correspondence was de’alt with as follows:— Central H.B Electric Power Board advised that the matter of an additional light in Takapau was receiving attention. —Received. Conservator of Forests wrote m reference to “fifths” for Wakarara road maintenance. —Engineer advised that up to the present £4OO had been spent on the road. D. Preston wrote relative to damage to Carson’s road.—The cost to. repair the damage was estimated at £2O. Mr. Preston, in person, protested that he should be charged with the whole of the cost and offered £lO, The council decided that £2O should be contributed by the end of the month.

The Department of Overseas Trade, London, asked that particulars be supplied when public tenders are called.—Filed for reference. A. Larsen asked permission to fence portion of road at Makaretu.— Granted, on condition ratepayers interested approve.

Takapau Progressive Association wrote in reference to planting trees in township —Permission given to plant from Neilson’s garage to Town Hall at no cost to council and subjeqi to approval of engineer. Sainsbury, Logan and Williams asked for further particulars in regard to land required for proposed stock road at Takapau.—Referred to Counties Association solicitor for advice,

J. Russell wrote further to complaint re water supply.—Council submitted that although Mr. Russell suffered a shortage two years ago the same did not apply now and he had no cause for complaint. If at any future time the water supply was obstructed the council would take steps to remedy the mutter The writer is to be advised of this.

The secretary. Takapau School Committee, asked for reduction of sanitation fees.—Grant of £3 15/made

A. E. Burchett wrote complaining of ranger’s action.—Received. F. R. Furminger wrote in reference to linesman’s car.—Repairs authorised to the extent of £l7. ENGINEER’S REPORT. The council’s engineer (Mr R. W. Bond) submitted the following report for the period ended November 1. 1927 :— Takapau Riding.—A drain has been cut in Mr. Prescott’s property to divert water from the township, and the water-tables have been opened along Rangitoto back road. The contractor has started work on the approach to the Aorangi streatai bridge. Tenders have been called for a low level bridge, by Frazer’s. The formation on Asheott road has been trimmed up to receive metal. Clinton Riding.—The contractor has started his contract at South Makaretu. Metal has been graded in On various roads. Two hundred yards of metal is required on the MakaretuClinton road.

Onga Riding.—The filling at culvert on Mr. Glenny’s road is completed. The footpath along the new kerbing at Onga Onga has been levelled and trimmed up, and the roadside metalled. J. McCulloch has repaired his portion of Carsten’s road. Five concrete culverts are now being put in on the road beyond Foulds’. Jensen’s road is being laid off and plans are under wav for the work, covering a distance of 73 chains.

Ruataniwha Riding There is now laid on the Waipawa-Waipukurati road 127 chains of new metalling, leaving a balance of 25 chains to complete. The balance of Rismix for sealing is on the work, and if weather conditions permit I hope to have this put on before the Christmas holidays.

Hampden Riding.—A total of 147 yards of extra metal was used over the contract quantity, making 447 yards’in all. for Holden’s road. Two hundred yards of metal is now being hauled out to repair the lower end of Pa road, and a further 200 yards to patch Knapp's end of the same road. General.—Owing to overhaul of the crusher, the tractor having to bo re-

paired, it ha s been necessary to provide other power for the work. Otherwise all the plant is working satisfactorily. GENERAL. Authority wa s given for five old telephone accounts to bo written off. The traffic inspector reported two cases of speeding and two of overloading, also a number of owners failing to furnish mileage returns. Proceedings are to be taken in two cases and mileage returns pressed for. ' Or. Paulsen stressed the need of more stock paddocks in the Onga district. Cr. Glenny is to make enquiries. It was decided to raise a further portion of the £5OOO main highways loan. • A trial is to be made of Coltex for the roads. The Prime Minister was supported in introducing the petrol tax. The pay-sheet, amounting to £2263 was passed. TENDERS ACCEPTED. Construction of low-level bridge at Marekeke stream: W. H Fairhurst £373. Four hundred yards of river shingle on Asheott road: E.
