AMATEUR ATHLETICS

ELECTRIC LICHT MEETING.

TO BE HELD ON NOVEMBER 23

A meeting of the executive of the Hastings Amateur Athletic and Qyehng Club was. held in the Y.M.C.A, rooms last evening, when Mr. R. M. Hewitt presided over a good attendance of members. Donations were received from Messis. E. Bowen and W. B. Nicoll. Tho committee intend to hold their meeting bj T electrci light, and 'n doing so hope to draw a greater number of competitors from Napie-i, etc. A sub-committee of Messrs Hewitt, Brady, and W. Blake was set up to confer with the electrical engineer re additional lighting at Nelson Park. The next sports meeting, which will commence at 7.30 p.m., should

be well patronised by the public, and a good night's entertainment is guaranteed.

The following events will be competed for on the 23rd. inst.:—Boys’ 1 mile Cycle Handicap under 16 years, half-mile Cycle Handicap (open), 100 yards Handicap, 100 yards Ladies’ Handicap,. 440 yards Handicap, 11 mile Cycle Handicap, 220 yards Secondary Schools Handicap, 1 mile Handicap, half-mile Relay (teams of four). The committee wish to promote field events and intend holding a putting the shot contest at this meeting. The adjourned high jump handicap will also be finished at this meeting. An invitation was received from the Centre to nominate a member to represent the Club at the trials for the N.Z. Championships. It was decided to ascertain whether Mr D. Jackson (the well known walker) would be available to make the trip. Honorary members’ tickets may now be obtained from the honorary secretary. An endeavour is to be made to get the Australian athletes for January 2nd meeting. Entries for the meeting on the 23rd. inst., close with Mr. W. J. Carberry, on Saturday the 19th, and the committee have decided to make no charge for entrance fee for their series of evening meetings.
