RIFLE SHOOTING.

OKAWA DEFENCE CLUB. FIRING IN A GALE. On Saturdav last the Okawa Club fired the second round l for the President’s Trophy over ranges of 300 yards and 500 yards. Wretched weather conditions prevailed. a strong westerly wind, increasing to a gale, and accompanied by dust, proved most trying to the marksmen. At 300 yards F. T. White, with 47, and D. I. Thompson, at 500 yards, with 47. were the best range scores, both excellent shoots under the conditions. The former also registered top score off the rifle for the day with 90. C. R. Palmer returned the best handicap score with 93, D. I. Thompson. A. R. Mclvor, and F. T. White being next with 92. The following are t.he individual scores: —

WAIPUKURAU CLUB.' TWO TROPHY SHOOTS. McVicar’s trophies. Dep. Pres. W. G. Bryce won Mr Turner’s tfophy and Rflm. J. Grainger won Mr McVicar’s trophy. The details are as follow:— MR E. TURNER’S TROPHY. A Grade.

TARADALE CLUB.

SEASON OPENED

The Taradale Rifle Club opened its sesaon on Saturday on the Dolbel range, Redcliffe station, when there was a good attendance of shootists present. The president. Mr M. R. Jarvis, in a short address, declared the season open, after which the patron of the club. Mr P. Dolbel, fired the opening shot, scoring a fine “bull.’’ It was decided to hold a teams’ shoot for the afternoon between teams picked by the president and deputypresident (Mr P. Bishop). . After a. close contest, the former won bv one point. A strong tricky wind blowing down tile valley in addition to the varying light, made conditions difficult. The new target put in by the committee worked most satisfactorily. Af'ter the firing on the 300 yards range was got off an adjournment was made for afternoon tea. which was kindly supplied by a number of ladies, who were afterwards accorded the club’s appreciation by the president. Opportunity was then taken to present the handsome Dolbel Silver Cup. won last season by the youngest member of the club, Mr N. Collinge, of Hastings. In making the presentation. the donor of the cup. Mr P. Dolbel. wished Mr Collinge every success in this season’s shoot. Details of the shooting are:—
