TAKAPAU.
(Own Correspondent.) A meeting of the Takapau Caledonian Society directors was held on Wednesday evening to finally arrange matters in connection with the sport’s day' to be held on Wednesday, February 23rd. Mr H. A. Speedy, vice president, was in the chair.
Before the commencement of business a vote of condolence to the relatives of the late Dr. O. J. Reid was by the chairman and carried in the customary manner. It was decided to engage the Napier Highland Pipe Band for the sports day. The secretary reported that good nominations were to hand, and that it was anticipated there would be record entries for the horse events.
A large amount of detail business, in connection with the sports, and the concert and dance following, was attended to. For the concert very prominent performers have been definitely engaged viz., Mrs M. Mercer, Mrs Forsyth, Miss Iris Lawson, Messrs L. Kendal, E. G. Collin, T. Brennan, W. J. Hood as vocalists and entertainers, and in addition there will bo champion pipers and dancers.
Wednesday was Sanatorium Day for Takapau and a party of ladies, taking with them the usual batch of comforts for the patients, spent the afternoon at Pukeroa. The organisation an-l arrangements for the afternoon were in the hands of Mrs W. G. Morton. The fly is ravaging the rape paddocks in' the district and farmers who have contracted to fatten off lambs on rape and turnips are being hard put to to carry the surplus stock in good condition.
