MISSIONARY SOCIETIES.
CONFERENCE IN WELLINGTON. Wellington Feb. 17. Delegates representing the Protestant churches and missionary societies of New Zealand*met to-day. The Bishop of Nelson was elected president; the Rev. H. H. Barton (Dunedin) vice-president; the Rev. ft. Calder, honorary secretary; the Rev. F B Redgrave, honorary treasurer; the Revs. M. W. P. Lascelles. M M. Holland. J. H. Lahore and Mrs. Pinfold, executive council. Power was given to the eouncil io appoint two delegates to the World Missionary Council to meet -n Jerusalem in March. 1928. The members of the Council suggest to the ministers of their several churches the desirability of securing speakers from sister churches to address their missionary gatherings. A committee was appointed 1° make recommendations regarding the study of common mission text books in the several churches, and the 'possibility of holding combined missionary conferences. A discussion took place on the Chinese situation, and a resolution was passed urging Christian people of the Dominion to pray that China’s present interna] trouble may be overcome. and that the Chinese Christian church may be strengthened and that missionaries may be preserved from danger and enabled soon to resume their work. A resolution was passed, thanking the Prime Minister for his efforts :o secure a Roval Commission on the, issues between the French and British authorities in the government of the New Hebrides. A resolution was carried of ap preciation of the New Zealand ad ministration of mandated territories a copy of the resolution to be sent to the secretary of the League of Nations Council, as well as to the New Zealand Government.
