AUCKLAND THE WINNER. Christchurch, Feb. 17. Auckland won the Cornwell Cup this afternoon, the Lyttelton crew being second and Christchurch third. In the seventh race of the series, the Gadfly, sailed by Lyttelton, again crossed the line first with a lead of nearly four minutes, but the Lyttelton crew, which sailed the boat, were disqualified for fouling. At the conclusion of the race the Gadfly, which had proved such a disturbing factor in the series, was disqualified from further competition, the reason being that it was considered the Gadfly was lighter than t' standard one-design Takapuna piunt. , Result of the seventh . race :— Christchurch 1, Otago 2, Southland 3, Auckland 4, Wellington 5. In the eighth race the Auckland crew, McGregor and McMasters, secured their third .win, taking the cup for 1927. Christchurch, with two wins, were next in order. Auckland sailed their own boat, the Winsome. and Christchurch had the fast Lyttelton boat, the Kai Iwi. Auckland won by three minutes and Lyttelton, in the Veta, just outsailed Christchurch. The placings were: Auckland 1. Lyttelton 2, Christchurch 3 Hawke’s Bay 4. Southland. Otago and Wellington did not finish.
