BIGAMOUS MARRIAGES
WARNING TO MAORIS. WRONG ADVICE. Wanganui, Feb. 18. Hori Turia was found guilty of bigamy and ordered by Mr. Justice MacGregor to come up for sentence if called on within two years and ordered to pay £2O towards the cdst* of the prosecution. His Honour issued u warning to Uaoris generally regarding bigamous marriages. The accused, he said, had evidently been influenced by some other person to go through a -econd form of marriage. It had been suggested that Ratana followers up the river had been advising Maoris that the only proper form of marriage was through their church. Such advice jjjis entirely wrong and such persons were liable to be brought up for punishment.
