Mr Charles Evans Scott, of Victoria University College, has been successful in obtaining his degree of L.L.M., having passed the necessary examinations with first class honours. Constable Beck, of Hastings, left this morning for Wellington to join the police escort appointed to accompany the Duke and Duchess of York on their itinerary of the Dominion. The escort, which is composed of 80 men. all over 6ft high, will proceed to Auckland to meet Their Royal Highnesses on their arrival in New Zealand. i
At a recent meeting of the council of the Royal Agricultural Society ot New Zealand, Sir Douglas McLean was congratulated upon the high honour recently conferred upon him by His Majesty the King, and the hope was expressed that Lady McLean and Sir Douglas would be long spared to enjoy their honour. Sir Douglas McLean briefly thanked the council for its kind wishes.
The Premier, the Rt. Hon. J. G. Coates on arrival at Auckland by the Limited, was received by a large assemblage nt the railway station, including members of Parliament, representatives of the municipality >nd ooroughs. a number of railway officials. and workmen. To-day Mr. Coates is busily engaged with deputations and Government business, one strenuous deputation being representative of the unemployed. He will be tendered a civic reception at the Town Hall to-night (Press Association.)
