CHRISTCHURCH METROPOLITAN RACES.
Second Day.—Thursday, 12th November. There was glorious weather, and a large attendance to-day. Handicap Hurdle Race—Theodore, 9st 111 b, 1; Alice Grey, lOst 71b, 2. The latter lost several lengths at the start; both horses jumped splendidly throughout. Alice gained gradually all the way round, and half way up the straight was on level terms, hard ridden; Theodore was then called upon, and won by two lengths.
Metropolitan Handicap, 1£ miles—Templeton, 9st lib., first; Tadmor, 7st, second; Remnant, 7st 111 b, third. Yatterina, 9st 31b; Parawhenua, Bst; Rangi, 6st 91b ; Bede, 6st 41b ; Exile, 6st lib, also ran. Tambourini, lOst 71b ; Traitor, 9st 31b ; Sonnambula, 6st 21b ; Toi, 6st 21b. Marvel, sst 91b ; Emmeline, colt, sst 91b, were scratched. After nine false starts the lot got fairly away, Parawhenua leading, Yatterina last. When half way round, Templeton and Exile joined Parawhenua, but the latter was soon after passsed by Tadmor. Coming down the straight, Templeton, Tadmor, aud Remnant came to the front, and, after a splendid struggle, Templeton won by half a length. Time, 2 min. 48 sec. Parawhenua and Yatterina were the favorites at starting. Lottery Plate of £SO added to a sweepstakes of £3, weight for age, the winner of the Railway Plate to pay £lO or catry lOlbs extra, maidens at time of start allowed 31b, distance 3^-mile—Yatterina, 1; Waverley, 2 ; Belle, 3; Elfin King, Emmeline, and Remnant also ran. Yatterina making a good start, won easily. Christchurch Plate, 2 miles—Ngaro, 6st Bib, 1; Traitor, Bst 71b, 2; Tambourini, lOst 111 b, 3. Yatterina, lOst 41b, Templeton, 9st 51b, Wainui, 7st 61b, Sonnambula, 6st 81b, and Ada colt, 6stßlb, were scratched. Traitor made the running at a hot pace, Tambourini lying second for the first mile, when Ngaro commenced to go up, and collared Traitor in the straight, and after a magnificent race home, won by half a head. Tambourini was out-paced from the first, and pulled up in the straight. Time, 3 minutes 48 seconds. Selling Race, f-mile—M'Kinnon's No Gentleman, £3O, Bst 41b, 1; Zigzag colt, £4O, 7st 131 b, 2. Won easily by five lengths. Consolation Handicap, £4O, 1 mileExile, 6st 71b, 1 ; Waverley, 7st, 2 ; Parawhenua, Bst 101 b, 3. Exile led all the way, and won easily. The stakes were paid over by the Jockey Club on Friday as follows: O'Brien, £577 10s; Delamaine, £399; P. Campbell, £281; Redwood, £l5O 15s ; Hedge, £95 ; Barker, £74 ; Walters, £7O; M'Kinnon, £47; Lunn, £2O. A sale of racing stock took place on Saturday. Ngaro was sold to R. Farmer, of Hawke's Bay, for 500 guineas, and Titoki to the same purchaser for 100 guineas ; but Mr Farmer afterwards sold it privately to H. Prince, bookmaker, for 150 guineas. Tadmor sold for 150 guineas to Colton, of Dnnedin. A 300 guinea bid for Wainui was refused ; 100 guineas was refused for Ragni; Pokaka was sold to M'Glashan for 130 guineas.
