[PBK ALHAMBRA,] LONDON. 25th March. In the House of Lords, the Earl of Belmore, in moving for the production of papers relative to the Polynesian slave question, enquired as to the nature of the instructions given to the special commissioner at Fiji, asking whether they recommended that Fiji should he constituted a Crown colony. Earl Carnarvon, in reply, regretted the con # tinuanco of the detestable traffic, and promised to lay the papers on the table, ex cepting the instructions sent. He stated that Commodore Goodenough and Mr Bayard were keeping the question of annexation in abeyance. The Times, in commenting on the subject, refers to the Pluto massacre. The body of Dr Livingstone has arrived at Aden, enroutc for England,
Serious colliery strikes have occurred, owing to the recent reduction of wages. 26th March. The Lincolnshire Handicap was won by Tomahawk. Liverpool Grand National— Regency, 1 ; Chimaey-Bweep 2; Merlin, 3. The Collieries Company for New South Wales is not floated, and the deposits have been returned. The bank return is weaker. Cora market dull. 28th March. A deputation of Irish members waited on the Premier, asking for the release of the Fenian prisoners. Mr Disraeli declined to grant the request. The Oxford and Cambridge boat race was rowed to-day, over the usual course, resultin another victory for Cambridge by two lengths. The weather was splendid, and & large crowd was present. Great colliery strikes have occurred in Staffordshire, twelve thousand men being out of work.
