WELLINGTON.
Saturday, Nov. 2. Mr. Brogden leaves here oa Tuesday next, in the gtearner Albion, for Melbourne, en route for England. The office of Inspector of Militia and Volunteers has been abolished, and a further reduction in the staff of the same department is contemplated. On and after the Ist of January, the Civil Service office hours will be from nine to five. A reduction in the number of officials in that department is contemplated. Two shocks of earthquake were felt here yesterday, during the day, and another during the night.
His Worship the Mayor and Councillor Mills waited on Mr Yogel to day, requesting that the General Government assist the Corporation in pro viding berthing accommodation for the San Francisco mail steamer. Mr Vogel said that if sach was done in Wellington, it must be done at oilier ports, el.-e ib would seem that Wellington was exceptionally favored by the Government.
