Hawke's Bay Times. Nullius addictus jurare in verba magistri. WEDNESDAY, JUNE 19, 1872.
Jn another column we publish a telegram from Tauranga, from which it wilf be seen that the long-cherished hope of thousands of persons in the Province of Auckland bids fair to be realised at no distant date —assuming, of course, that the intelligence to hand is correct —the stubborn opposition of Te Him and Mere Kuru to the opening np of Ohinemuvi having been withdrawn. The following is an instance of the rumors current among the Maoris at the present time, and the source from which they come. A letter from Waikato natives was lately shown to a PakehaMaori by some of the local natives, in which it was stated that as utu for himself and the" Governor being allowed to see the king, Mr M'Lean Into 1 returned to the Waikato tribes four blocks of confiscated land —one of 400,000 acres, one of 200,000 acres, one of 120,000 acres, and one of 10,000 acres, valued altogether at about £1,000,000 ! We learn that in consequence of the s.s. with hw Honor Mr Justice Johnston on board, having had lo put hack to "Wellington, the sittings of the Supreme Court at Napier will again have to he deferred, but the exact date has not yet heen fixed. »■>">*» imtvmmmmmHmmmKmimmmmmmtmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmammmmmmmutmtmmu*'
