Commercial Intelligence.

ENGLISH COMMERCIAL. New Zealand Loan and Mercantile Agency Company's Circular, of Feb 8, reports;—ln anticipation of the public sales of this article which commence this day, but few transactions in first hand parcels have taken plaoe privately, but, in those instances where this course has been departed from, exceptionally high rates have been paid. In consequence of this unwillingness on the part of importers to sell prior to the commencement of the present series, the trade have been compelled to fall back, for the supply of their pressing wants, on such parcels as were available in second hands. For these very full rates have been paid, ranging from Id to 2d per lb advanoe on December prices. The sales of East India wools recently held at Liverpool passed off with great spirit, prices paid having surpassed the level of previous rates by 2\ to 3d per lb. We are pleased to obsreve that the Continental markets have likewise sympathized with our domestic trade, for late sales both at Antwerp and Havre phow satisfactory rates as compared with those current at close of last year. On the present occasion, we therefore anticipate that foreign buyers will be eager competitors, and doubtless in consequence carry off a larger proportion of the wools to be offered than was the case in the November December series of Bales. The arrivals to this date are as follows ; South Wales, 14,064 bales ; Victoria, 50,130 bales ; Tasmania, 4-21 bales ; South Australia, 23,45.0 bales ; New Zealand, 2,607 hales; Cape, 23,500 bales: total, 114,172 bales, And although these, assisted by a long continuance of favorable winds, considerably exceed our estimate of the 11th ultimo, they will, we not eagerly bid for at the present sales, but ease to the succeeding series to be held in the spring will, by their disposal just now, be opportunely afforded. The catalogue of this clay's sale includes the following proportions ; —From New South Wales 21, Victoria 1,644, South Australia 1,143, New Zealand 477, Cape ; total, 6,073 bales.
