The s.s. Star of the South, .Capt. E. Holmes, left Auckland on Monday last, 22nd inst., and had light variable winds to the Mercury Islands; from thence to the East Cape light W. and S.W. winds. Sounded tho Cape at 7.30 p.m. on the 23rd, when she encountered strong adverse wind with heavy head sea. Sought shelter at Mahia yesterday afternoon, anchoring there at 1 p.m. Resumed her passage at 6 o'clock last evening, and arrived in harbor at 5 o'clock this morning. She was the bearer of about 20 tons general cargo and several passengers. —The Star will steam for the Thames and Auckland again at 3 p.m. tomorrow.

The s.s. Phoebe, hence for Auckland at 9 a.m. on Monday, was sighted from the Star of the South off White Island at 1 p.m. on The schooner Mariner, from Napier, arrived at Auckland last Saturday evening.

The s.s. Napier, from Poverty Bay, may be expected to arrive in port this evening.

The s.s. Rangatira, from Napier via Castle Point, arrived at Wellington at 8.30 this morning.

The barque Ferndale, from Liverpool, arrived at Auckland on Sunday last, after a pro* tracted passage of 126 days.
