The next regular weekly parade pf the Napier Rifle Volunteers takes place on Olive Square this evening at 6 o'clock. Subscribers to the Napier Athenaeum are requested to return all Books and Periodicals belonging to the Institution, which may be in their possession, on or before the 30th inst. (to morrow) ', after which date the library will be closed for a week. The Volunteer Artillery Band will (weather permitting) give an open-air concert, on the green opposite the Herald office this evening, at half-past 7 o'clock, when the following selection of music will be played : 1. Quick March—" Gentle Annie" ... Collins 2. Quadrille—"St. Patrick's?' ... ... Laurent 3. "New Zealand Volunteer Grand") C. Thomas March"... ... > (Napier) 4. Waltz—" Mildred" Godfrey 5. "The Rhine Watch " (by desire)... Wilhelm 0. Galop—"Royal Procession" ... D'Albert "God Save the Queen." We learn that the steamer Napier will leaye for Wellington at 2 o'clock to-morrow afternoon, on Government service. The s.s. Keera steams for Poverty Bay, Tauranga, and Auckland at 7 o'clock to-night, with 300 sheep, 1 pkg. hams, 1 horse, 1 case, and the following passengers :—Mrs IVJ_.'Farlane (2), Miss Nation, Mr Newbolc], and Mr Perry. In the Kesident Magistrate's Court this morning the charge of malicious injury to property, preferred against Mr Giifard by the Government, again came on for hearing. Mr Qrmqnd was examined, but no evidence of any importance was elicited. The sole question in dispute was whether Mr Giffard, in breaking the lock of the paddock, acted with a bona fide intention of testing a right, in which case the matter would be beyond the jurisdiction of the Court.—His Worship reserved his decision till to-morrow morning.
