The Auckland Evening Star, says : —An important cause was tried in the Police Court this morning, in which Mr Stannus Jones sued the master of the Alice Cameron, for damage to flour placed on the wharf at an hour when it was impossible to .-store it. Defendant held that it had been virtually delivered when put over the ship's side ; but alter heaving much evidence, the Bench held the contrary opinion, and gaye a verdict for plaintiff for the full amount claimed, namely, ,£2O. A destructive fire took place in Melbourne on the 27th ult., by which the Haymarket Theatre and the Apollo Hall were burnt to the ground. The damage is estimated at between agc| i'IO,POQ. '"
