The English Mail via California is due at Auckiaucl to-day. By the Star of the South, we have Auckland files to the 7th inst. Extracts appear elsewhere. The Napier, from Auckland via Tauranga and Poverty Bay, had not arrived when we went to press. The Aitillery Band's open-air performance takes place this evening opposite the Herald office, commencing at 7 o'clock. We ha*.e to thank J. M. Tabutean, Esq., Collector of Customs, for the par ticulars which appear in this evening's paper respecting the wreck of the ketch Midlothian at Wairoa. We have received a circular from Mr Corlett, late of the Thames Advertiser, notifying that he intends starting a new paper early this month, to be called the "Thames Guardian."
