Bawke's Bay Times. Nullius addictus jurare in verba magistri. WEDNESDAY, OCTOBER 4, 1871.

■The unqualified success of the Bcchahite demonstration last night, calls for something more than a mere formal notice at our hands. Little more than a year since there was in this Provincebut a few individual members of the Order—so few, indeed, that the scheme of opening a Tent was not brought into effect without some difficulty. Mainly, however, through the persistent efforts of Brother Troy, the requisite number of candidates were obtained. The Tent \vas successfully organised, and since that time the progress of the Order has been unprecedented ly rapid. There are now four distinct Tents in this Province, all of which are advancing in the most satisfactory manner, while the falling away of members has been singu larly few in number. The crowded state of the Oddfellows' Hall last night .demonstrates the interest taken in the Order by the public generally, and the several effective addresses made by the speakers cannot prove without considerable influence in convincing outsiders of the benefits derived by members of the Order from connection with it, and by society at large from its influence in .checking the evils rlowing from the drinking customs of the day. We trust that the Order in this Province will receive an additional impetus in its pro gress from the succcessful demonstration made last night.
