WELLINGTON.
Friday, Sept. 29. The whole of last night's silting of the House was occupied by the debate on the Ofcago Waste Lands Bill. The de bate was adjourned at 2 o'clock this morning. The Defence Minister said to-day that the rifles and ammunition given to Marsh's friendly natives had passed from him through several hands to Te Kooti, aud were regained lately when Te Kooti was nearly captured. The House went into committee today on the Education Bill. Mr Wakefield's amendment, that the head of the Education Department be permanent, was rejected, and the clause, that a Responsible Minister be at the head, was carried, During the discussion, Mr Lightband referred to Mr Fox as the future Minister of Education. Subsequently, when asked whether such was the case, Mr Fox replied that the question was rather premature. A. football match took place to-day bet ween Wellington and ISTelson teams. The former won. A dinner to the Nelson visitors is to be given to-night.
