Iron telegraph poles are being introced into Switzerland with great success. and have been placed on 350 miles of Swiss railways. It is anticipated that in Germany, where iron is cheap, poles made of that metal will be substituted for those of wood on the lines.

Jn rifle shooting it is not often that such a feat falls to be noted as the making of six consecutive bull's eyes at 600 yards; but this was performed at the recent Wimbledon meeting, in the competition for the Prince of Wales' Prize, by Private Crawley, of the Ist Herts, whose unsurpassable score at the long range nevertheless failed to win him the prize. He had unluckily scored but 12 at the 200 yards distance, and his 17 at 500 yards did not make his total good enough by one to beat the excellent score of 50 made by the winner, Private Harris, of the 2nd Oxon, with the steady shooting of 18, 16, and 16.

The Auckland Evening Star, of the 16th inst., contains t}ie following:— The weather to day has been surpassingly fine, and unusual briskness appears to prevail in every branch of business. The streets are thronged in a manner that has not been seen for a long time past; and, considering the damp which had been thrown o\er everything by five months of almost inceseant squalls, it is not to be wondered at that people should emerge from their hiding places and come, out to bask in the sun. There is every appearance of a continuance of this lovely weather, v hich has succeeded a stormy period such as has not been experienced in Auckland for fully five and twentv vcars.
