LATE THAMES NEWS.
The Grahamstown correspondent of the Southern Cross telegraphs the following : Sept. 16, noon. Caledonian lodged 1,400 ounces ; this and previous deposits during the fortnight are being melted. 5 p.m. The total return from the Caledonian for the fortnight is declared at 5,460 ounces melted gold. It is officially announced that all the specimens broken out were crushed, 8 p.m. Discouraging rumors are in circulation, and pi ices are falling, but confidence in the mine is sustained. Shareholders are prepared to hold for the next rise that must. come. Kuranui Hill Tunnel.—The 1,000 ft. contract, was completed to-day, at a point 30 ft. within the Inverness mine. Market fluctuating in leading stocks. Caledonians opened with sales at £155, receded to ,£l5O. £145, and closed at £125, no buyers'; Thames sold at £2B and £29, closed £25, and falling. Nonpareils in favor, sold at £6 and M 2i> 6d, closed firm. A further advance is looked for. Central Italy, £2 12s 6d; All Nations, £5 2s 6d ; Orientals, 8s ; Inverness, 17s to 18s. The weather is line, and Grahams town is thronged with people.
