The Alta California of August 1, sa .y S : —"Mr W. PL Webb, the eminent shipowner, who has recently inaugurated the JSTevv Zealand and' Australian steamship line on a substantial basis, leaves this city on August 3 for New York, whence he will despatch the splendid steamship Dacotah to this port to take its place in the Australian line. Mr Webb will then proceed to Europe, to make Ihe necessary arrangefor the agencies connected with his enterprise, and will return here in the Fall. Meantime, Captain Stewart of Messrs Stewart and Collie, represent him in tha colonies. He takes with him the sincere good wishes of all who believe in the establishment of our steamship interests more especially as they regard San Francisco, the seaport par excellence of the Pacific. An address from oar commercial men was presented to Mr Webb, to which he replied in suitable terms. The Army and Navy Gazette, under the heading of "The Berkshire Campaign," says :—The force to be engaged in the au'tiimn manoeuvres will start from Aldershot about the 10th September, will march in three columns, and will, be absent 16 days from Aldershot. The whole corps d'armee will be concentrated at Lockinge, the beatiful seat of Colonel Lloyd Lindsay, V.C. The army will be then divided into a nearly equal attaching and defending force, a battle will be fought every day, and the umpire, some General (high in command), will depide which force has had the best of the fight, which must retire, and renew the combat the next day.
