Commercial Intelligence.
Dunedin.—The Otago Daily Times, of the jTth inßt., reports as follows: In the import markets the transactions of the past day or two have not been extensive, general business being affected to extreme quietness by the inclemency of the weather. The principal jtem occurring has been the sale by auction of the sugars ex i ien lesser, which were offered by Messrs. M'Laudivss, Hepburn, and Co., at their rooms yesterday. Tiie cargo, which proved a fairly assorted one, was competed ior freely, and the whole placed at prices showing a slight improvement on previous rates. The China sugars offered at the same opportunity, but not reaching the importers' limits, were withdrawn. We note a rather better feeling with regard to hemp goods, and sales of both woolpacks and cornpacks are reported, the particulars not, however, transpiring. In teas, the transactions have beea light—buyers waiting for tbe new season's congou?, with which the market will, no doubt, be immediately supplied. In the meantime prices are fairly sustained. In spirits and wines, scarcely anything is doing. Kerosine remains without attention, trade parcels quitting at about 2s 2d. The produce market still shows a great slackness, and grain guotations witness a further depression in r*ates. Wheats are offering freely at §s, but sales are small, and only to millers. Feeding barleys have been sold at Is lid and 2s, and inalting parcels are not now quoted over 3s 3d to 3s bd.' Oats, goods lots, ate worth 2s 2d—demand confined to local requirements. Fine flour (best brands) stands at £l3 iOs to £l4 ; the latter the rate for ;mail current parcels. QA3IABJ7.—The Qamaru Times, of the sth inst., reports as follows : The business during the last few days, especially in the grain market, has been extremely dull, no transactions noteworthy having taken place. This has, no doubt, arisen from the heavy rainfall, which has been taken advantage gi by farmers to finisn sowing. There has beejl no change in prices, and our last quotations remain unchanged, but they are nominal, no large parcels having changed Jjauds,. ■• .. t •
