VOLUNTEER CLASS FIRING.
Last year, great complaints were made by our Volunteers —not without cause —at the late, period at which the class firing commenced, thereby necessitating the shooting being very much hurried through. We are slad now to hear that it is the intention of the authorities this year- to "take time by the forelock," it being stated that the firing will piobably commence as early as next month. The average firing in this Province last year was, on the whole, really good, and we cannot look forward to this year's being much, if at all, better; but we confidently hope that there will be more interest shown in the matter by the Volunteer force as a whole, and that, as a consequence, there will be more competition. To be good shots should be the aim of every man in the force —and boy too, for we presume the class thing includes our youthful brothers-in-arms. Apart from the honor —trivial though it may seem to some—attached to the winning and wearing the marksman's badge, a knowledge of how properly to handle the rifle may yet stand us in good stead in times to come.
