Two charges of drunkenness came before the Resident Magistrate's Court this morning. The usual fine of 5s was inflicted upon one offender; the other called two witnesses to disjjrove the charge. Failing tn do so, he was fined 10s, with 7s 6d costs. The English Mail via Suez may now be hourly expected to anive in this Colony. The formal opening of the new United Methodist Free Church in Napier took place yesterday —the .Rev. R. Taylor, of Waipawa, officiating both morning and evening. Collections in aid of the Tru?t Fund were made, and |he amount gathered, we believe, exceeded j£l(X
The steamer Napier, under charter to the Government, put in an unexpected appearance on Saturday night, from Poverty Bay, having on board Major Ropata, Captains Porter and Richardson, ,&c. She again took her departure for Poverty Bay last night, carrying Ropata, Captain Porter, &c, back. Some ammunition, we believe, svas forwarded by this opportunity. We learn that the Napier may be ex pectecl back here in a day or two, via Wairoa.
