The family of Smith will be pleased to learn that they % ure m a new P^ a y "Nearer and Dearer," at the CharingCross Theatre, London, The piece is from a short story, and relates how a baronet, for a bet, asked for a Miss Smith at a boarding-school; how the chance name really belonged to a school girl who was expecting her brother from India; bow the baronet took advantage of the mistake to indulge in extra fraternal embraces ; how the real brother arrived and confronted the pseudo relative, and how love and marriage resulted. With reference to Colonial butter the Home News says:—The Shell Harbor Butter Export Company have been very successful with their first consignment. Mr Tallerman, the agent, reports in the highest terms of its color, quality, aud condition. 'lt is,' he says, ' far in advance of any butter hitherto received from from the colonies.' A little more salt would, it is said, be an advantage; but that is a want the British will easily become reconciled to. The size of the packages, containing 5 cwt., or thereabouts, is somewhat of a novelty here j but the agent of the pompany is hardly likely to allow that to stand in the way of a speedy aq4 satisfactory realization upon the shipment"
