MELBOURNE.
Tuesday. June 13. A breach of promise of marriage case —Wiltshire against Occleston and wife —has terminated in a verdict for the defendants. A man named Dixon, charged -with wife desertion, was arrested on board the Gothenburg at the heads. There has been a meeting of the friends of Gapt. Walker, late of the 111iated steamer Auckland. Great opposition is manifested here with regard to the proposed Property Tax. A man named Myles has murdered his brother by striking him on the head wif h a hammer. He has been committed foi* trial, Some of the passengers and crew of the ship Somersetshire still remain at the sanitary station in consequence of their refusing to submit to re-vaccin-ation. The Bendigo district is extraordinarily productive and progressive this season. The Carl has sailed for the Fijis with large number of passengers, horses, and boats. An earthquake shock has been felt at Beech »vorth, and at Albury. The markets generally are firm. Tobacco shows a slight advance Twelve months' leave of absence has been granted to Chief Justice Stawell in consequence of ill-health. Judge Parry tills the vacancy.
