At the criminal sessions, Thomas Pollock Muirhead, of the Armed Constabulary, was found guilty and sentenced to death for murdering his comrade, George Bond Gilfiilan, at the Waikato, in March last. The murdeieris a very intelligent man, and committed the act when in delirium tremens. Several persons haie been nearly poisoned through eating native eels— Lhey have now all recovered after suffering severely. The mail steamer Nebraska arrived from Sydney yesterday, and sailed for Honolulu to-day, with 45 passengers. On the passage up to Sydney, the Nebraska was only 4| days—the fastest passage on record. The steamer Hero occupied 5| days on the same trip. The Wellington and the Ahuriri both leave for the South to-morrow 17,500 ozs. gold arrived from Thames on the 13th Inst. The mines are still producing heavy returns. The Caledonian is as rich as ever, and shares closing at ,£IBB. The next dividend is expected to be from ,£ls to ,£2O. Thames have sold for £39 ; Tookeys, £37 ; Alburnia, £lO ; Poverty and Charleston, £8 10s; Bel fasts, £7 ss; Otagos, £3 13s—rising; Junction, £3—next crushing will be good; Cures, 21s; Red Queens, 8s; Nonpareil, £5 —a dividend of 8s has been declared,
