AUCKLAND.
Tuesday, June 6. A sad accident occurred on Satin dayevening last, to Mr George Ritchie, of the firm of Beveridge and Ritchie, Solicitors. He was accidentally thrown from his horse, death being instantaneous. An inquest on the body was held on Monday, when a verdict of accidental death vvas returned. His funeral took place to-day, at which an immense number of people attended. On Monday, a child belonging to Mr D. Grove, M. P. C, was accidentally killed on a tramway at the Thames. The schooner Industry was totally wrecked at the Waikato heads yester day. The ship Alexandrina arrived in bar. bor on Saturday last, from London, after a rather protracted passage of 114 days She reports having encountered fearful gales on this side of the line. During one of the gales a heavy sea broke on board the ship, doing immense damage and killing J. Moore, the chief steward, and Edward Day, an ap prentice. The s.s. James Patterson arrived from Sydney, yesterday; .she reports the total wreck of the s.s. Auckland, between Sydney and Melbourne. The passengers and mails were transferred to the Macedon and conveyed on to Sydney. 30,000 ozs. of gold has been received from the Thames during the past fortnight. The Caledonian claim is looking as well as ever; the shares standing at .£176. Thames, £3Q. Cures, £1 ss. Junction, £2 15. Alburnia, £U r This latter claim has every appearance of turning out a second Caledonian; a large quantity of very rich specimens have recently been taken out.
