Yesterday's of the Provincial Council was rather an important one in several respects. Mi Colenso's resolutions relative to interest were discussed and rejected, as reported in another column, and some very necessary amendments in the acts relating to the education tax also proposed by him, were thrown out almost without consideration. Rath'er a questionable resolution by Capt. Russell, relative to heavily subsidizing the establishment of certain branches of industry, was agreed to without dissent, and several other matters of interest and importance were disposed of on which we may comment herafter. We regret that a portion of our report is deferred.

Same little amusement \w occasioned by Mr DolbePs resolutions relative to the sitting of the Council at Waipawa. Hitherto Mr Dolbel has taken anything but a leading part in the busi ness of the Council. Except in his untiring and hitherto fruitless endeavours to obtain the Waitaha bridge, he has not particularly distinguished himself, but he gained an unmistakenble victory yesterday. Mr Sutton's action on that occasion proved the charge of "bad generalship" laid against him to be

well founded. Had he allowed his opponent quietly to "withdraw his motion the matter would have dropped, but he courted defeat, and obtained it. It is questionable, however, in a Council so addicted to re-com witting and reconsidering resolutions as ours, whether the decision will not at an early date be rescinded.
