The Lyttelton Times states that Mr. 'Crasroft Wilson, C. 8,, is about to visit the mother country. The newly formed Acclimatisation Society at Wellington already numbers sixty-two members. Scarlet fever is reported to be dying out in the Mount Benger district, Otago, no new cases having occurred, Petitions to the General Assembly, praying for the passing of a Permissive Bill, are being signed in Wellington and Wanganui. The proposition recently laid before the Otago Institute by Mr P. Thomson, regarding the formation of a Field Katnralists' Society, is ia\ orably noticed by the Wellington papers. The present condition of the Wellington Athenaeum, according to the Post, is a standing reproach to the people of that city. '-Its weatherbeaten dilapidated external aspect harmonises well with the woe-begone look of things within, and both are in keeping with the state of its finances and its future prospects." The twenty second annual report of the Australian Mutual Provident Society has been issued to members. It show* that 1,980 new policies have been issued for the year, producing £32,562 of new- premiums. The gross income has increased to .£224,395, and the accumulated fund,£138,357, making n, total invested capital of £818,142.
