Hawke's Bay Times. Nullius addictus jurare in verba magistri. MONDAY, APRIL 17, 1871.

His Honor the Superintendent returned from Poverty Bay by the ss. Napier yesterday. The Weither,— Throughout last night and to-day a fresh S¥. breeze has prevailed, with occasional heavy showers of rain. We have to thank Mr Palmer of the Star of the South for a copy of the Evening Star of the 13th inst., published just prior to the steamer's departure from Auckland. The Star of the South leaves for the Thames and Auckland at 5 pm. to morrow. The Sale of the steamers Ahuriri, Wellington, Taranaki, Phcebo, and Lord Ashley will take place at Wellington to morrow. The District Court sat to day from 10 am. till a late hour in the afternoon. Several actions against natives on promissory notes were held over, the Judge considering that natives as a rule were not well versed in such matters, and that the circumstances of the claims should have more particular consideration. The principal case, however, was Parnell v. Samuels, a claim for damages, which occupied nearly the whole day, and was not concluded when our reporter left. Mr Stediran for plaintiff, Mr Lee for defendant. Plaintiff claimed for the damage he had sustained in having been discharged before the expii ation of the term for which he was engaged, as he had since been unable to obtain employment. In defence it was urged that he had been dischaiged on account, of general negligence, and that he would have found no difficulty in obtaining other employment had he sought for it in a proper manner.
