Saturday, April 8. The Wonga Wonga J eft for Honolulu yesterday, with ninety-three passengers and large mails. Sad intelligence is being received daily of the oi the late gales. The Emma Jane, from Oamaru, arrived yesterday, almost a wreck, a portion of her cargo of wheat having been thrown overboard for the safety of the The remainder was much damaged. The Saucy Lass, from Lyttelton, overdue, has not arrived. She was la>t seen.in the gale, and it is feared that she has foundered with all hands. 0 ober vessels out during the gale are missing. The Eliza, whaler, encountered the gale off' the coast. Two men were washed overboard, the boats smashed, and the vessel much damaged. She is going on to Hobart Town for repairs. Several fatal mining accidents are reported from the Thames. On the sth instant a number of landslips occurred at the Morning Star claim, by which Mrs Riley and child were buried alive. The husband and three children had a narrow escape. Arrived—Velocidade, from Lyttelton ; Ngaueiri, from Eororonga ; Prince Alfred, from Tahiti; Phoebe and Rangatira from the South. Sailed—Parningham, for New York, with a cargo of flax and gum valued at £52,000. A Licensed Victualler's Association is being formed. The latest telegrams from Sydney, dated the Jst inst,, state that an influential deputation from the Sydney Chamber of Commerce waited upon Sir James Martin respecting the desirability of a subsidy being granted by the Go vernment to a line of mail steamers between Sydney and San Francisco via Brisbane and .Fiji. He declined to do anything without the sanction of the Legislature. A proposal for a subsidy of JUO,OOO for the past twelve months has passed the Assembly. The Co vernment declined to acknowledge the present trip, or to send any mails except in private hands.
