In the case of Regina v. Barton yesterday, Stobs, Collector of Customs at. the Bluff, said he got late information from Captain Pearce, of the Gothenburg, who had read it in telegrams opened on board. Tipping, the operator, received certain items from the purser, and not being instructed to send it to any one in particular, forwarded ic to the Independent in a message signed " Hutton."

There are eeven entries for the St. Kilda Stakes; Backbiter and Yatterina are favorites. There are also fourteen entries for the Club Handicap, eight for the Town Plate, and eighteen for the Publicans' Handicap.
