Mr Sutton, in a short speech moved the first resolution, as fellows : That the meeting congratulates the Hon. the Postmaster General upon the advantageous postal contract he has made with the North Pacific Transportation Company, but desires to express its regret that no provision has yet been made for the mail steamer calling at the Port of Napier. Mr Robinson seconded the motion, which was carried unanimously. Mr Kennedy moved— That the following memorial be adopted by this meeting, and forwarded at euoe to the Hon. the Postmaster-General. To the Son. the Postmaster-General, Wei lington , — The memorial of the undersigned merchants, traders, stockowners, and others, residing within the Province of Hawke’s Bay,-r-JUESPECTYULLT SHEWETH, — 1. Pbat your memorialists have heard, with great satisfaction, that an arrangement has been made for a mail service from San Francisco, which they believe will be both efficient and conducive to the best interests of the colony. 8- That your memorialists observe, with much regret, that, although the steamers will pass within sight of our port, no provision has been made for landing mails and passengers at the Port of Napier. 3. Your memorialists desire to point out that the time which would be occupied by the deviation of the mail steamer from her course, so as to call at Hawke’s Bay, would not necessarily involve a detention of more than two tours, including half-an-hour for landing mat's and passengers, and they submit that, as Napier is the centre of the East Coast district, With a local steamer running regularly to all as far as Pauranga, and a. postal service to the interior of the North Island, an accommodation so easily supplied may with much topfidcßoe he fpr.

4. In addition to the ooating service at this port, an efficient steam launch has been ordered, and will shortly be available for the use of the port, and especially for tendering steamers on their arrival. 5. We therefore respectfully urge that you will cause such an alteration to be made in the contrac", a 9 will ensure to this portion of the colony the full benefit of the advantageous service you have secured, and cause Napier to be included among the ports at which mails will be landed by the mail steamer. And your memorialist* will ever pray. ; Mr John Stuart seconded the motion, and Mr Worgan having made a few remarks, the resolution and memorial, after being again read, were adopted unanimously.
