Resident Magistrate's Court.—» Yesterday afternoon Alexander Grant and William Beckham were again brought up, charged with having feloniously and unlawfully assisted one Henry Williams, a prisoner in H.M. Jail at Napier, to make, his escape from the said Jail, by harboring and maintaining the said Henry Williams. The information was laid under the 16th section of the Prisons Ordinance of New Zealand. His Worship did not consider that the Act in question applied to cases in which the prisoner had not been actually assisted to escape from custody; and as there was not evidence* to this effect which would warrant him in committing the accused to the Supreme Court, he discharged the prisoners.—The court to-day was occupied with a number of civil cases of no great public importance, our report of which must be deferred.
